Mary Louise Seidl, 92, died on Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Luther Manor in Marinette, Wis. She grew up in Menominee, spent her career working for American Airlines and then retired back in Menominee.
Mary was born on March 27, 1917, the sixth of 10 children of Michael G. and Mary C. (Maihofer) Seidl. She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church (now known as Holy Spirit) and attended elementary school at there. She was a member of the 1935 graduating class of Menominee High School. After studying at the Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee, she worked as an executive secretary for American Airlines for 37 years, first in New York City and later in Dallas, Texas. She returned to Menominee in 1993.
Mary was deeply devoted to her family, embracing her many nieces and nephews as part of her life. When her mother’s health was declining, she and her sister Helen made numerous trips home to help with family members who were closer with the care that enabled their mother to remain in her home.
Mary and Helen were together through much of their life, sharing an apartment in New York when they both worked for American Airlines there, traveling together around the U.S. and Europe, and sharing an apartment in Menominee when they retired back to their home town and lived in the 1300 block of First Street, just a block from the house where they grew up at 1412 7th St.
Fr. Ronald J. Skufka will preside at the funeral for Mary at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1016 Tenth Ave. in Menominee, Mich. There will be visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Mary’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Luther Manor and Unity Hospice for their compassionate care.
